Land Acknowledgment
Friends of Swansonville humbly acknowledges that the historic Swansonville Church stands on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Chemakum people.
For millennia before the establishment of Port Ludlow, the shores and waters of this area were known, used, and stewarded by the Chemakum, whose primary settlements included Port Ludlow Bay. We also recognize the broader region as part of the ongoing homeland of the S’Klallam and Twana/Skokomish peoples, whose connections to these lands and waters remain vital.
We honor the legacy of the first peoples of this place and acknowledge the profound impact of the Point No Point Treaty of 1855. With respect, we express our gratitude for the privilege to gather, preserve history, and build community on this land.
